The lucet is worked the same way as French knitting, but where the latter is usually done on 5 to 7 hooks, the lucet has only two (it can be imitated with thumb and forefinger). The oldest known lucet is early medieval (Swedish) and is made of bone. The product of the lucet is a square-section cord, very dense and strong if worked quite tightly (using a needle to work the loops).
