Whistle rattle Amsterdam (nr. 973)

with silver-coloured bells
The bone rattle is the ancestor of today's bright plastic baby rattles. This typical Dutch object has probably been in use from the late Middle Ages on. It has a whistle at one end, four little bells in the middle (held by loops of copper wire), and the other end is flattened for the baby to teethe on.
