Hnefatafl was a popular game with the Vikings from the 4th to the 11th century. Its place was later taken by chess. Sometimes called "the king's game", it is a strategic board game for two players, one defending and the other attacking. Different versions of the game are played on board varying from 7 x7 to 19 x 19 squares.
